Nigerian football legends, Augustine Eguavoen and Jay-Jay Okocha are attending the highly anticipated TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2023 Coaches Symposium in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

The two-day event, taking place today September 12th till Friday 13th, 2024, will bring together some of Africa’s most celebrated football figures, past and present.

Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the symposium will feature a star-studded lineup, including Senegalese icon, El Hadji Diouf, Ivorian legend, Gadji Celi, and former Cameroon goalkeeper, Antoine Bell. The event is designed to promote the exchange of ideas, strategies, and experiences among the continent’s top football minds.

One of the key attendees will be Augustine Eguavoen, Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and interim coach of the Super Eagles. Eguavoen, who was part of Nigeria’s 1994 AFCON-winning squad, recently led Nigeria to a win over Benin and a draw against Rwanda in their last AFCON qualifying matches. His extensive coaching experience across Africa will make him a valuable contributor to the symposium.

Jay-Jay Okocha, regarded as Nigeria’s most talented playmaker, will also play a prominent role in the event. Although Okocha has not taken on a formal coaching position since his retirement, he remains an influential figure in African football and serves as one of CAF’s prestigious ambassadors. His involvement in the symposium is aimed at raising coaching standards across the continent.

Other notable figures attending the event include South African defender, Mark Fish, Ghana’s Black Stars coach Otto Addo, and Fulham legend Luis Boa Morte, who currently coaches Guinea-Bissau.

This inaugural symposium is expected to draw over 50 national team coaches from CAF member associations, marking a significant moment in African football development.
