Two individuals are feared dead following a boat accident in the Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, located in the Ogun West senatorial district.
The tragic incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a statement from Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to Odutola, the police received a distress report at the Ipokia Division on September 12, 2024, around 7:00 a.m. The report, filed by Awhanse Jimoh and Ahohe Jimoh of Ilepa Village, detailed the accident involving two wood merchants who were swept into a river.
The victims, Ahohe Seido and an individual identified by the alias “Dogbon,” were transporting firewood along the Gbodo Jego River in Ijofin, Ipokia. The firewood was bound for sale in the Benin Republic when their boat was unexpectedly overturned by a strong current, causing everyone on board to fall into the river.
Despite efforts to rescue them, only two individuals survived, while Seido and Dogbon remain missing. So far, their bodies have not been recovered, although community divers are continuing search operations.
An investigation has been launched to confirm the details of the accident and verify the accounts provided by the two survivors.
