Omoyele Sowore, the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, was detained by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) on Sunday upon his arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.
Sowore’s detention is believed to be linked to his involvement in the 10-day #EndBadGovernance protests that took place across the country in August. The demonstrations, led by the Take-It-Back Movement and various civil society organizations, called for an end to poor governance and demanded widespread reforms in Nigeria.
Further details on Sowore’s detention and potential charges have yet to be released.
