Daniel Igali has announced that he will not seek re-election as the President of the Nigerian Wrestling Federation once his current tenure expires next year.

Igali, who has held the position for 12 years, expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of financial support during his time in office.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba, the former Olympic champion revealed his decision to step down, stating, “I am not contesting for the presidency of the Wrestling Federation. This is my final term as president.”

Igali further highlighted his frustration over not receiving any funds from the federation throughout his tenure. “I served as Federation President for 12 years, and I was not given 50 kobo all through the 12 years,” he noted.

His departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Nigerian wrestling, with Igali having dedicated over a decade to the sport’s growth despite the financial challenges faced.
