Right-hand batter and African Games bronze medallist, Piety Lucky, has been named captain of Nigeria’s U-19 girls team as they head to Rwanda for the 2025 ICC U-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup qualifiers, scheduled to take place from September 22nd to 29th in Kigali.
The Nigeria Cricket Federation announced the 14-player squad on Tuesday, which includes standout players like bowler, Peculiar Agboya, teenage star Shola Adekunle, Lilian Ude, and Christabel Chukwuonye.
Other key players include Kehinde Amusa, Anointed Akhigbe, Peace Usen, Deborah Bassey, Eguakun Omosigho, Victory Igbenedion, Inyene Ubong, Naomi Memeh, and Beauty Oguai.

Nigeria’s journey to the qualifiers began with a series involving Ghana’s U-19 team, the Nigerian selected squad, and South West, setting the stage for their competition against Malawi, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe in the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier.
Initially slated to compete in a two-group, seven-team format, the late inclusion of Zimbabwe reshaped the tournament, with the top four teams forming a new division. The winner of the Division 1 qualifier will secure Africa’s second ticket to the 2025 tournament in Malaysia, joining South Africa, New Zealand, and Samoa in Group C of the World Cup finals.

This second edition of the U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup will take place from January 8 to February 2, 2025, featuring 16 teams in Malaysia.
