The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has ordered an immediate investigation into bribery allegations made by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, an ex-convict, claimed in a video shared by blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, that some unnamed EFCC officers demanded and received ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed that the commission’s chairman has set up a team of investigators to probe the claims. “To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to appear at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators in uncovering the truth behind the bribery allegations,” the statement read.
The EFCC assured the public that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, with the findings made public once concluded.
This follows Bobrisky’s previous legal troubles, where he was sentenced in April to six months imprisonment for violating Nigeria’s currency laws by abusing the naira.
