The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially presented a certificate of return to Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate and winner of the Edo State Governorship election.
The presentation ceremony took place at INEC’s headquarters in Abuja on Thursday.
Okpebholo was declared the winner of the election, held on Saturday, September 21, after securing 291,667 votes, surpassing his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 247,274 votes.
Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP) finished third with 22,763 votes. Fourteen other candidates contested but received significantly fewer votes compared to the leading three.
Okpebholo dominated in over 10 of the 18 local government areas in Edo State and won two of the state’s three battleground senatorial districts.
