As part of activities to formally inaugurate the 2024/2025 legal year of the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will administer the oath of office to 87 newly appointed Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) on Monday at the Court’s main courtroom.
According to a statement by Festus Akande, the Director of Information and Public Relations, the CJN will also deliver a State of the Judiciary address, providing insights into the Supreme Court’s performance during the 2023/2024 legal year and the overall state of the Nigerian judiciary.
Key stakeholders in the justice sector, including the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the Chairman of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN), and the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), will also present speeches addressing the current state of justice in the country.
The Supreme Court resumed sitting on September 23, 2024, following its annual vacation, which began on July 22, 2024. The legal year inauguration ceremony will officially take place at 10:00 a.m. in the Supreme Court’s main courtroom, continuing the Court’s long-standing tradition.
