The federal government has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, a public holiday in celebration of Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, made the announcement on Saturday in a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
Tunji-Ojo commended Nigerians for their patience and hard work, assuring them that their sacrifices would eventually yield positive results. He also urged citizens to reflect on the contributions of past heroes and be motivated to work toward a united and prosperous nation.
“As we mark this anniversary, it is important for Nigerians to remain steadfast in their commitment to nation-building,” the statement read, as the minister wished everyone a happy Independence Day.
In light of the current economic challenges and rising inflation affecting millions of Nigerians, the government noted that this year’s celebration will be a “low-key” event.
