At least 60 bodies have been recovered following a tragic boat accident in Niger State, according to a statement by Abubakar Dakani, Press Secretary to the Council Chairman of Mokwa Local Government.
The boat, carrying over 300 passengers, capsized at the notorious Gbajibo River in Mokwa Local Government Area while en route from Mundi to Gbajibo for the Annual Maulud celebration.

Council Chairman, Abdullahi Muregi confirmed the recovery of approximately 60 bodies, with 10 survivors found so far. Rescue operations, involving the State Emergency Management Agency and local volunteers, are still underway to locate the missing passengers.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State, Bologi Ibrahim revealed that about 150 people have been rescued alive so far, while 16 corpses have been recovered.
This incident comes just weeks after a similar boat capsized in September 2023, killing 24 passengers on their way to harvest crops.
