Ahead of the local government polls in Jigawa, the State Police Command has imposed restrictions on all forms of vehicular movement from 12am on  Friday, October 4, 2024, to 6pm on Saturday, October 5, 2024, except those on essential services or duties.

This is contained in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a copy of which was made available to newsmen on Thursday.

According to the statement, only vehicles on essential duties or services, such as JISIEC officials, election observers, ambulances for medical emergencies and firefighters, among others are exempted from the restriction imposed on vehicular movement.

He reminded political parties and their supporters in the state that the ban on political thuggery and use of weapons during elections is still in force, as anyone caught will be arrested and prosecuted.

“The political parties and their followers intending to use weapons and any kind of its kind are advised to refrain from such and strictly adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.

“Similarly, the Command warns all security aides and escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling units and collation centres during the election period,” he said.

“Adam said the command, in collaboration with all sister security agencies and other relevant stakeholders, will work harmoniously to fish out troublemakers and their sponsors, adding that anyone caught will be arrested and arraigned to face the full wrath of the law.

The police as lead and law enforcement agency will not allow criminal elements who may take this advantage to foment trouble and violate the provision of the law as contained in the electoral act as amended. Anyone found wanting will be dealt with decisively,” Adam said.

The statement explained that all personnel deployed for this critical task have been warned to be civil and courteous, shun any form of corrupt activity, and maintain a high level of professionalism.

He said the command has put in place all necessary security arrangements to ensure that the process is carried out peacefully.

“The Command, led by CP AT Abdullahi, wishes to inform the law-abiding citizens of the state to turn out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility, as the command has made adequate preparation to provide security for all law-abiding citizens.

The poll is scheduled to be held on Saturday.
