The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has condemned the explosion at its secretariat on Aba Road, Port Harcourt, on Saturday morning, declaring that the party is under attack in the state.

Former APC caretaker committee chairman, Chief Tony Okocha, expressed his concerns while speaking to the press about the incident. The explosion, believed to be caused by dynamite, severely damaged the party office, pulling down one of its gates and shattering windows of nearby buildings.

Okocha revealed that he was alerted about the explosion early Saturday morning. He questioned the motives of the attackers, noting that the local government election was not being conducted at the APC secretariat.
He emphasized, “The APC is under attack in Rivers State, and this attack is unnecessary and uncalled for.” Okocha recalled a court judgment that declared the election illegal, barring security agencies like the police and DSS from participating, raising concerns about safety and security during the election.

According to Okocha, the police visited the scene, and party members are now being hunted by security operatives. He also revealed that another explosive device, which failed to detonate, was found at the scene, averting further destruction.
Okocha called on the federal government and the international community to address the security threats faced by APC members in Rivers State. He warned that while the party remains committed to the rule of law, retaliation could escalate the situation.
Former APC publicity secretary Chibuike Ikenga echoed Okocha’s sentiments, condemning the attack and calling for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace in Rivers State through adherence to the rule of law and proper governance.
