Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has launched the distribution of 21,924 bags of rice as part of the Federal Government’s food security initiative aimed at easing the economic difficulties faced by citizens. Speaking at the launch event held at Katsina People’s Square on Sunday, Governor Radda emphasized that the program targets vulnerable groups, particularly women and youth, across the state’s wards and local government areas, covering a total of 6,652 polling units.
This is the second time the Federal Government has provided palliatives to Katsina, following a recent fertilizer distribution to support both wet and dry season farming. Governor Radda noted a marked improvement in security during this year’s farming season, allowing for successful cultivation on 95% of the state’s farmlands, compared to previous years.
In addition to the food distribution, the state government has awarded contracts worth N30 billion to enhance the agricultural sector, part of its broader efforts to improve the livelihoods of the masses.
Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, praised the palliative measure as being in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. He commended Governor Radda for his commitment to supporting vulnerable populations during these challenging economic times, which have seen the cost of essential items skyrocket.
The distribution committees, made up of representatives from the State House of Assembly, security agencies, religious groups, and women and youth organizations, are tasked with ensuring the fair and equitable allocation of the relief items.
