Malawi’s Temwa Chawinga has set a new record for the most goals in a single National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season, surpassing Australia’s Sam Kerr’s previous mark with 19 goals.

The 26-year-old striker for Kansas City Current and the Malawi national team achieved the milestone in her debut NWSL season. Chawinga, who previously played for Swedish club, Kvarnsvedens IK and China’s Wuhan Jianghan University, has scored 19 goals in 24 matches, averaging a goal every 109 minutes. She also boasts 103 shots with a shot conversion rate of 18.63%.

Kerr, an Australian football star, still holds the overall record for the most NWSL goals with 77, while Lynn Williams is next with 64 goals. Chawinga’s record-breaking goal secured a 1-0 victory for Kansas City Current over Asisat Oshoala’s Bay FC, putting them third in the NWSL standings.
