Day 1 of the Afinni Unity Cup was a thrilling showcase of goals and excitement, with Anikantanmo/Swamp emerging as the biggest winners of the day after a commanding 6-2 victory over Epetedo West at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos, on Saturday Afternoon.

The tournament began with four matches, kicking off with defending champions, Ricca/Odunfa securing a 2-0 win against Epetedo East. In the second match, Ebute Elefun/Sura defeated Phase 1 & 2 by four goals to 2, with seven players impressively scouted during the game.

One of the most thrilling encounters of the day was between neighboring communities, Sandgrouse and Araromi. Araromi edged out a 3-2 victory in a closely contested match. The final game saw Anikantanmo/Swamp dominate Epetedo West 6-2, ensuring their spot in the quarterfinals.
Looking ahead to Day 2 on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Pike/Forsythe will take on Okepopo/Amuto in the first match at 9 a.m., followed by Okesuna/Abitifa facing Phase 3 & 4 at 11 a.m. Massey/Carena will battle Tinubu/Luther, while the final match of the day will see Faji/Evans square off against Campos/Popo Aguda.

The winners of Day 2’s fixtures will join Ricca/Odunfa, Ebute Elefun/Sura, Araromi, and Anikantanmo/Swamp in the quarterfinals of this exciting competition.
