Nigeria’s Women Under 17 Team, Flamingos made a powerful statement at the FIFA U-17 World Cup delivering a commanding 4-0 victory over Ecuador in their second Group A match on Saturday night at Estadio Cibao, Santiago de Los Caballeros.

Bankole Olowookere’s squad dominated the South American side from start to finish, securing a resounding win that sent them through to the tournament’s quarter-finals as the first team to advance, with a perfect six points from two matches.

Shakirat Moshood shone with a brace, opening the scoring from the penalty spot in the 28th minute and sealing the win with a second goal six minutes into added time. Harmony Chidi made it 2-0 in the 54th minute, and Peace Effiong added a third, completing the rout.
Nigeria’s relentless attack kept Ecuador pinned down, with the Flamingos firing 31 shots, 13 of which were on target. The scoreline could easily have been doubled.

In their final group match, Nigeria is expected to secure another dominant victory when they face the Dominican Republic on Wednesday at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez, Santo Domingo.
The Flamingos, who finished third in the last edition in India, have been ever-present in the tournament since its inception in 2008, reaching the quarter-finals in 2010, 2012, and 2014. They broke their quarter-final curse in the 2022 edition by defeating the USA to reach their first-ever semi-finals.
Earlier in the tournament, the team opened their campaign with a 4-1 win over New Zealand.
