President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the launch of four new satellites aimed at advancing Nigeria’s space technology capabilities. The announcement was made by Dr. Matthew Adepoju, Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), during the 8th Brigadier General Michael Agu (Rtd) annual distinguished lecture and awards ceremony.
Of the four satellites, three will carry optical payloads, while the fourth will feature Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, replacing the current Cintetic Reader satellite.
This initiative underscores Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening its technological infrastructure and enhancing its space exploration and development efforts.
With several of Nigeria’s existing satellites having either deorbited or nearing the end of their operational missions, these new launches are essential to maintaining the country’s presence in global space development.
