Divine Muheto, the reigning Miss Rwanda, has been arrested for drink-driving and operating a vehicle without a license. According to police reports, she caused damage to public infrastructure before fleeing the scene. This incident marks the second time the 21-year-old has been charged with driving under the influence.
The arrest was made public on Tuesday following speculation about her involvement in a recent collision. A court hearing in Kigali is scheduled for Thursday. Since winning the national beauty contest in 2022, which has been suspended amid sexual misconduct allegations against its organizers, Muheto has remained a prominent figure in Rwandan society.
In Rwanda, drink-driving offenses carry fines of 150,000 Rwandan francs (approximately $110) and can result in five days of police custody. The government has intensified enforcement of traffic laws, leading to a notable decrease in fatal road accidents across the country.
