The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has announced strict security protocols for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State, prohibiting security aides and escorts from accompanying VIPs to polling stations and collation centers.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, issued a statement on Thursday detailing the measures, which aim to uphold peace, transparency, and credibility throughout the election process.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Sylvester Alabi, has been appointed as the coordinating DIG for the election, tasked with overseeing security operations. Additionally, Assistant Inspector-General Bennett Igweh and Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu have been appointed as the AIG and CP for the elections, respectively.

To enhance security, a restriction on all vehicular movement will be enforced from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Election Day, with exceptions for essential services, including ambulances, media officials, and fire services.
The statement highlighted further guidelines:
- Security Aide Restrictions: VIPs are barred from bringing security aides and escorts to polling booths and collation centers.
- Prohibition of Unauthorized Security: Unauthorized security personnel and quasi-security agencies are not permitted to operate during the election. The use of sirens by unauthorized vehicles is strictly banned.
- Special Access Considerations: Polling stations will ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and those with mobility challenges.

The Police have also set up designated helplines for inquiries and reporting suspicious activities, which will be shared with the public soon. Additionally, the Nigeria Police Force will be collaborating with the military and other federal security agencies to safeguard a fair and peaceful electoral environment. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities that may compromise the integrity of the election.
