At least 14 civilians were killed and 16 others injured on Thursday in an attack by Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the village of Al-Tomsa, south of Al Jazirah state. This marks the latest atrocity in a conflict that has engulfed the region since last month.

The RSF has intensified its attacks in eastern Al Jazirah following the defection of its area commander, Abu Aqla Keikal, to the Sudanese army on October 21. These assaults have claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, displaced thousands, and driven many to seek refuge in eastern Sudan and River Nile state in the north.

The Al Jazirah Conference condemned the attack, describing it as a raid aimed at looting and destruction. Among the victims was a three-year-old child, reportedly taken from his mother by RSF fighters and thrown into a water tank, according to a statement seen by Sudan Tribune.

The RSF is also reportedly besieging the town of Al-Hilaliya, located about 70 kilometers (43 miles) northeast of Wad Madani. The ongoing siege has resulted in over 400 deaths, exacerbating the region’s humanitarian crisis.

This surge in violence highlights the devastating impact of Sudan’s conflict on civilians, as the RSF continues its campaign of aggression and displacement across Al Jazirah state.
