The Court of Appeal has affirmed Tajudeen Baruwa as the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), dismissing the leadership claim of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo.
In a ruling that upheld the March 2024 judgment of the National Industrial Court, the appellate court declared MC Oluomo’s appeal meritless, solidifying Baruwa’s position as the legitimate leader of the union.
Baruwa had previously assumed office following an election conducted at the union’s headquarters in Abuja.
The three-member panel also imposed a fine of N100,000 on the appellants, signaling a decisive end to the leadership tussle. Court documents released on Friday outlined the judgment, which read in part:
“This Appeal is devoid of merit, and the same is hereby dismissed.”
MC Oluomo had assumed the union’s presidency after a disputed election held at its zonal secretariat in Osogbo. His son, Idowu Akinsanya (King West), stirred controversy with his remarks celebrating his father’s victory, claiming dominance beyond Lagos. The comment attracted widespread criticism, especially as MC Oluomo is known for his strong political ties to President Bola Tinubu and his influence in Lagos politics.
With the appellate court’s judgment, the NURTW leadership battle has been conclusively resolved, reaffirming Baruwa’s mandate and maintaining stability within the union.
