A tragic explosion at a chemical factory in Jacobs, south of Durban, claimed one life and left two others injured on Monday afternoon.
Emergency responders, including ALS Paramedics, rushed to the Balfour Road factory at approximately 12:45 p.m. following reports of the incident. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered that a chemical explosion had critically injured three individuals.
Garrith Jamieson of ALS Paramedics confirmed that advanced life support teams worked to stabilize the victims. However, one of the injured, a man who had suffered severe injuries, went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other victims were stabilized and transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Authorities are expected to assess the site to determine what triggered the deadly incident.
