Super Eagles striker, Sadiq Umar is set to miss several weeks of action after suffering a hamstring injury during a training session with Real Sociedad on Wednesday.

The 27-year-old forward has endured a challenging spell since his €20 million move from Almeria to Real Sociedad two years ago. His early promise was curtailed by a devastating anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained in just his third game for the club, which sidelined him for an extended period.

Since recovering, Umar has struggled to regain his best form. Last season saw limited opportunities, with most of his appearances coming as a substitute. The current campaign has offered little improvement, as the striker has recorded just one assist in eight games.

Despite his club struggles, Umar received a surprise call-up from Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen for the last international break. However, his brief cameo for Nigeria yielded little impact.

Returning to Real Sociedad earlier this week, Umar was preparing for the club’s Copa del Rey fixture against Jove Español when the hamstring injury occurred. While the club has yet to confirm the severity, such injuries typically require a recovery period of four to six weeks.

This setback adds to the striker’s difficulties as he aims to rediscover the form that once made him a standout in Spanish football.
