Nigeria: Armed Bandits Abduct Traders on Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road

Several traders traveling along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari Road were reportedly abducted by suspected terrorists on Monday evening in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State. During the incident, armed bandits attacked two commercial vehicles in Dan’arau village around 7:55 PM, firing sporadically in an attempt to kidnap the occupants.

A team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jibia swiftly responded to the attack, engaging the gunmen in a fierce gunfight. The police successfully foiled the kidnapping attempt, rescuing fourteen victims. However, two of the rescued individuals sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Tragically, one of the victims succumbed to his injuries while receiving care.

ASP Abubakar Sadiq, Spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, confirmed the incident and the subsequent rescue operation. Police efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing as investigations continue.

Commissioner of Police, CP Aliyu Musa, lauded the officers for their exceptional bravery and dedication during the operation. He urged the public to assist in the ongoing efforts by reporting any information related to the suspected criminals to the nearest police station promptly.

“The officers displayed remarkable gallantry and commitment to duty. We encourage everyone to come forward with any useful information to help us bring the perpetrators to justice,” CP Musa stated.

This incident highlights the persistent security challenges in the region, as Katsina State continues to combat the threat of armed banditry and ensure the safety of its citizens.
