A dramatic accident occurred on Monday at Mile 2, Lagos, as a 40-feet container fell onto a Toyota Camry with the registration number LSR 293 HJ, en route to Apapa. The driver miraculously survived the incident.

According to a statement from Adebayo Taofiq, Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the driver was rescued alive through a swift, coordinated effort by LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The joint rescue team rushed the victim to the hospital for immediate medical care. Security at the scene was ensured by officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, who maintained order while emergency responders carried out their work. Following the successful rescue, the crushed Toyota Camry was safely extricated from beneath the container.

Efforts to clear the fallen container are ongoing, with LASTMA officers actively managing traffic to ease congestion and restore normalcy.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the importance of properly securing containers by truck drivers and owners to prevent such tragedies. He warned that negligence in this regard poses severe risks to lives and property, urging strict adherence to road safety protocols.

“LASTMA remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring road safety and efficiency across Lagos. We continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to uphold traffic laws and safeguard the public,” Bakare-Oki stated.
