The Senate, on Thursday, passed for second reading four contentious tax reform bills submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The bills were debated during plenary after a lead presentation by Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central). This followed detailed presentations made to the Senate on Wednesday by top officials from Tinubu’s administration.
However, the proposed reforms have faced significant pushback from Northern governors, traditional rulers, and the Northern Elders Forum, who have criticized the bills as being against the nation’s best interests.
