The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that the newly formed terrorist group, Lakurawa, is responsible for recent explosions that rocked two villages in the Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area (LGA), Zamfara State.
Commissioner of Police Muhammad Shehu Dalijan disclosed this during a press briefing, stating that one person lost their life and three others sustained injuries in the latest incident at Yar Tasha village along Dansadau road.
The explosion occurred around 8 a.m. on Wednesday when a commercial vehicle transporting passengers to Dansadau town ran over an explosive device suspected to have been planted by the terrorists.
Dalijan explained, “Yes, there was an explosion along Dansadau road this morning. It was a bomb planted under a bridge. The motorist stepped on it, and it exploded, killing one person and injuring three others.
“Preliminary investigations indicate it was remnants of the Lakurawa terrorists being pressured by soldiers to leave Nigeria who planted the device. They are attempting to flee to Birnin-Gwari forest en route to Zamfara State but are facing immense pressure from Nigerian security forces.”
He assured the public that the police and other security agencies would apprehend the culprits and urged citizens to provide any useful information about the terrorists’ movements.
This marks the second explosive attack in the Dansadau area within a week. On Sunday, a similar device detonated in Mai-Gungume village, killing a commercial driver.
A community source revealed that the terrorists exploited recent road repairs by locals to plant the devices. “We recently conducted community work on the road, and the bandits used that opportunity to plant the device at one of the spots we filled,” the source said.
The injured victims have been transported to Dansadau General Hospital, but their current condition remains uncertain. Security forces, including police and soldiers, have been deployed to the area to contain the situation.
Residents are calling on the government to take urgent and decisive measures to curb the threat, warning that road travel in the area may become untenable if the trend continues.
