A devastating fire swept through the Lafia Modern Market in Nasarawa on Friday, destroying goods worth an estimated N150 million.
The blaze, which began in the early hours of Friday December 6, was attributed to a nearby dumpsite, according to Joshua Ombugu, director of the state fire service.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the incident, thanks to the swift response of the fire service, which deployed five fire ambulances to the scene.
The service was able to salvage properties worth around N10 million.
The fire has left many traders and business owners counting their losses, and authorities are likely to face questions about the safety and management of the market.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper waste management and fire safety measures in public spaces.
