Lecturers across the Bauchi State-owned polytechnics, colleges, and monotechnics under the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of academic and non-academic staff have issued a two-week warning strike to the government over non-compliance with its demands on the new minimum wage.

The union said that it had issued a 21-day ultimatum on November 19 of which the government must comply with the payment of the new national minimum wage act in line with its salary structures.


The Chairman of JAC, Comrade Abubakar Ahmed, while addressing pressmen on Friday said that the government failed to make commitments on the demands.

“JAC acknowledged the meagre emoluments paid to our members across the institutions for November 2024 salaries. However, this falls short of our expectations, and we demand full implementation of the new salary structures for the higher institutions as approved by the National Salaries and Wages Commission”.

He said that the government failed to negotiate with the union during the period of the ultimatum.
He ordered the lecturers in Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic; Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere; Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare; A.D Rufai College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau; Bauchi State College of Agriculture; Bill and Melinda Gate of Health Technology, Ningi to ensure total compliance with the directive.

He urged the students and the parents to understand the teachers’ grievances, saying it is in the best interests of the general public.
