Egypt and Liverpool star, Mohamed Salah has revealed he is “far away” from agreeing on a new contract with the Premier League club. The 32-year-old winger’s current deal expires at the end of the season, allowing him to negotiate a free transfer with non-English clubs starting January 1st 2025.

Salah, who scored his 20th goal of the season in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham on Sunday night, addressed his future following the game.
The Egyptian while speaking to Sky Sports said: “No, we are far away from that contract and I don’t want to put anything in the media. “The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league, and I want to be part of that. I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There are a few other teams catching up with us, and we need to stay focused and humble and go again.”

The win at the London Stadium extended Liverpool’s lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points. Salah is not the only Liverpool star whose contract is nearing its end. Club captain, Virgil van Dijk and defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract at the season’s conclusion.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot, however, remains unfazed by the trio’s ability to sign pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs starting January. “I think I have a lot of control over what they do,” Slot said. “If they’re on the training pitch or in a meeting with me, I can guide them. Beyond that, their private decisions are up to them. What I do know is that I’m pleased with what Virgil, Trent, and Mo bring to the team.”
Earlier this season, Salah voiced frustration over Liverpool’s delay in offering him a new deal. After a win against Manchester City, he hinted at the uncertainty of his future by saying he played the game as if it might be his last encounter with Pep Guardiola’s side.
Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy remains optimistic about Salah staying at Anfield. “I hope this is just a bit of negotiation strategy,” Murphy said on Match of the Day. “Every Liverpool fan wants him to stay. I’ve got a positive feeling they’ll get it done eventually. These things take time, especially with the kind of money involved.”

Salah continues to demonstrate his immense value to Liverpool, achieving remarkable feats this season:
- Scored and assisted in eight Premier League matches this campaign, the most by any player in a single season.
- Contributed to 30 goals in 18 league games (17 goals, 13 assists), a record pace for goal involvements in a Premier League season.
- Has been involved in 52 goals in all competitions in 2024 (29 goals, 23 assists), more than any player in Europe’s top five leagues.
- Scored 20+ goals in all competitions for eight consecutive seasons with Liverpool.
With Salah’s pivotal role in Liverpool’s success, securing his future remains a top priority for the club and its supporters.
