Nigerian rapper OG Maco, born Benedict Ihesiba Jr., has passed away at the age of 32, weeks after being hospitalized.
His family announced the heartbreaking news on Instagram on December 27, honoring his resilience, creativity, and passion for life. “While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived,” they wrote.
Earlier, on December 16, the family revealed OG Maco was in critical condition at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. His manager disclosed that he was on life support and undergoing extensive tests, urging fans to keep him in their prayers.
OG Maco rose to fame with his 2014 viral hit “U Guessed It,” which cemented his place as a standout artist under Quality Control Music. He collaborated with major names like Diplo and Migos and earned recognition as part of XXL’s 2015 Freshman Class.
Despite facing significant personal challenges, including a near-fatal car accident in 2016 and a severe skin condition in 2019, OG Maco remained dedicated to his art.
His family expressed hope that his legacy will “remain forever etched in our hearts.”
