Gunmen, reportedly led by the notorious bandit leader Danisuhu, have imposed a ₦172.7 million levy on 25 villages in the Tsafe West area of Zamfara State.

The demand comes amid escalating insecurity in the region, where armed groups continue to terrorize communities through extortion, kidnappings, and violent attacks.

Residents of the affected villages are said to be under intense pressure to meet the imposed levy, as non-compliance often results in deadly reprisals by the gunmen.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the situation, but calls for stronger security interventions to protect vulnerable communities in Zamfara continue to grow louder
