South Africa: Fire Displaces 50 Residents in Cape Town’s Dunoon Settlement

Emergency services in Cape Town responded to a fire outbreak at an informal settlement in Dunoon, which has left 50 people displaced.

According to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service, no injuries or fatalities were reported in the incident.

“Various fire stations were deployed to the scene, and by around 10:10 AM, the spread of the fire was successfully contained,” Carelse stated.

He added that 30 firefighters are actively working to ensure the area is fully secured and safe for residents and emergency responders.

Authorities are assessing the extent of the damage and coordinating support for those affected by the blaze.
