Ivory Coast President, Alassane Ouattara has expressed his willingness to continue serving as president but clarified that his party has not yet officially decided on its candidate for the upcoming election.

The President while speaking to the diplomatic corps in Abidjan on Thursday provided the clearest indication yet of his intent to run in the October 2025 presidential election.
“I am in good health and eager to continue serving my country,” he said, signaling his readiness while emphasizing that no formal decision had been made by the ruling party regarding its candidate.
Ouattara, re-elected for a controversial third term in 2020, had previously suggested he was considering stepping down. However, he indicated that such a move would require his long-standing political rivals to also withdraw from active politics.
In September, the ruling party expressed its support for Ouattara’s potential candidacy, acknowledging his leadership and experience. Despite this backing, the official nomination and his acceptance remain pending.

The 2025 presidential election is expected to be a significant moment in Ivorian politics, as the nation anticipates clarity on Ouattara’s political future and the broader field of candidates.
