A suspected human trafficking ring has been dismantled in Johannesburg, leading to the rescue of 26 foreign nationals.
A joint operation by Sandringham police, Gauteng Hawks, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD), and a private security company took place in Sandringham on Thursday night.
Authorities responded to a tip-off about suspicious activities at a residence on Luster Road around 9 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered 15 naked individuals, believed to be Ethiopian nationals, held captive in the house.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had managed to break open a window and escape, with some being rounded up nearby, while others fled the scene.
Eleven victims were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Further investigation led to the arrest of three suspects involved in human trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm. Police recovered a 9mm P Tokarev pistol, a magazine, and no ammunition from the suspects
