Mozambique President Daniel Chapo has made two key appointments to his cabinet, naming Carla Louveira as the new finance minister and Estevão Pale as the minister of mineral resources and energy.
This move comes as the economy and finance ministries have been split into separate entities.
Louveira brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as deputy minister of economy and finance since 2020.
She has also worked alongside co-deputy minister Amílcar Tivane since 2022 and has held the position of director of the Office of Financial Inclusion at the Bank of Mozambique.
Pale, on the other hand, has been appointed to oversee the country’s mineral resources and energy sector.
His experience as chairman of Mozambique’s national oil company ENH, a position he held since 2020, will likely serve him well in this new role.
He is expected to play a crucial part in negotiations with energy majors like TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil, who are set to restart massive liquefied natural gas projects in the country.
