Troops from Operation Fansan Yamma, in collaboration with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), have successfully intercepted a cache of firearms and ammunition in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State. The operation, conducted between January 26 and 27, was based on intelligence reports about suspected arms dealers from Niger Republic operating in the area.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, the joint operation targeted individuals believed to be involved in illegal arms trafficking. A military source quoted by Makama revealed that the troops launched a covert operation to track the suspects, leading to a high-speed pursuit along the Kaura Namoda-Zurmi road.

The raid resulted in the recovery of a significant stockpile of weapons and ammunition, dealing a blow to the activities of armed groups in the region. The operation underscores the ongoing efforts of Nigerian security forces to curb the proliferation of illegal arms and enhance security in the North-West, which has been plagued by banditry and insurgency.

Authorities have yet to confirm the arrest of suspects or provide further details about the operation. However, the successful seizure highlights the importance of intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration in addressing security challenges in the region.

This development comes as part of broader efforts by Nigerian security forces to dismantle criminal networks and restore peace in Zamfara and other states affected by armed violence.
