Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has congratulated Syria’s newly appointed leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa, and wished him success in fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people, according to a statement released on Friday.

Sharaa, an Islamist with past ties to al-Qaeda, has been seeking support from both Arab and Western leaders since leading a rebel offensive that ousted former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad last year.
Sisi, known for his firm stance against Islamist movements in Egypt, leads the most populous Arab nation, which holds significant regional influence and maintains strong ties with the United States.
