Football fans have taken to social media to celebrate Former Super Eagles defender, Taye Taiwo following his induction into Olympique Marseille’s prestigious Club of Legends.
The 39-year-old left-back, who played 271 matches for the French club between 2005 and 2011, scoring 25 goals and providing 23 assists, now joins an elite group of footballers in Marseille’s Hall of Fame, including Samir Nasri, Lori Cana, Mamadou Niang, Fabrizio Ravanelli, and Paulo Cezar.

“Naija Represented. Taye Taiwo is in the house tonight as the former Olympian and Super Eagle is inducted into the #OMLegends club,” Olympique Marseille announced on their official X English account.
Fans also expressed their excitement online, with @viralvideoxr writing, “What a fantastic honour for Taye Taiwo! His contributions to Marseille and the Super Eagles will always be remembered. Cheers to the legends!”

Another fan, Engineer Bunmi, posted, “Wow, congratulations to him,” while @hot_ice234 added, “Naija to the world.”
Taiwo enjoyed a highly successful spell with Marseille, winning the Ligue 1 title, the French League Cup, and the French Super Cup before moving to AC Milan in 2011.
Renowned for his powerful left foot and attacking prowess, he became a fan favourite at the Stade Vélodrome, with his thunderous free-kicks and long-range strikes earning him cult status among Marseille supporters.
The Nigerian is one of only four players from his country to have represented Marseille, alongside Wilson Oruma, Joseph Yobo, and Victor Agali.
On the international stage, Taiwo earned 54 caps for Nigeria between 2004 and 2011, scoring five goals and cementing his place as one of the country’s finest left-backs of his generation. His induction into Marseille’s Club of Legends honours his impact in helping the club secure their first Ligue 1 title in 18 years during the 2009/10 season.

Following his departure from Marseille, Taiwo played for AC Milan and had a brief spell in the English Premier League with Queens Park Rangers before retiring in 2019.
French fans also celebrated his induction, with @issylesmoulineaux commenting, “Magnifique” alongside a tearful emoji.
