Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen have launched a coordinated attack on three communities in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State. The affected villages are Okpomaju, Odudaje, and Asa 2.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen invaded the communities on Wednesday evening, shooting sporadically and causing residents to flee into the forest for safety.
The attack is reported to have begun on Tuesday, with the gunmen returning on Wednesday evening to continue their assault.
Residents who remain in the area are attempting to repel the attacks, but the situation remains tense and uncertain.
The motives behind the attack are not yet clear, but the incident has raised concerns about the ongoing conflict between herders and farming communities in the region.
