Tunisia’s President Kais Saied has sacked the country’s finance minister, Sihem Boughdiri Nemsia, and appointed Michket Slama Khaldi, a magistrate, to take over the finance portfolio.
The presidency announced the change on Facebook, sharing images of Khaldi taking the oath of office.
Khaldi’s background includes heading a national commission tasked with recovering embezzled public funds.
Her appointment comes at a time when Tunisia is facing economic challenges, including sporadic shortages of basic items like milk, sugar, and flour, as well as a scarcity of domestic gas cylinders.
The reasons behind the finance minister’s sacking were not provided by the presidency.
This move is the latest in a series of changes in Tunisia’s government, which has seen significant reshuffling in recent times.
