The US State Department has approved a potential Foreign Military Sale to Egypt for the modernization of its Ezzat-class Ambassador IV fast attack craft, including key upgrades in combat systems, surveillance, and electronic warfare.

With an estimated value of up to $625 million, the deal includes four COMBATSS-21 Combat Management Systems, air and surface surveillance radars, electronic warfare systems, electro-optical/infrared sensors, navigation data distribution systems, fire control radar systems, 76mm gun upgrades, and related logistics and support services. However, the final cost will depend on Egypt’s specific requirements and budget agreements.
The COMBATSS-21 system, derived from the Aegis combat management system, offers modular and scalable capabilities, enhancing operational efficiency across various ship classes. The upgrades aim to bolster the Egyptian Navy’s tactical and operational effectiveness, reinforcing regional security and stability.

The modernization aligns with US foreign policy goals by strengthening a key ally in the Middle East. Lockheed Martin (Manassas, Virginia) and L3Harris (Northampton, Massachusetts) will serve as principal contractors for the program.
Originally introduced as the Ambassador III class in 1999, the vessels underwent significant enhancements through development contracts in 2005 and 2008, eventually being reclassified as the Ambassador IV class. The latest upgrades mark another step in their evolution, ensuring Egypt maintains a capable and modern naval force.
