A deadly midnight attack by armed bandits in Maru town, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria, has left one person dead and four others critically injured. The attackers also abducted 38 individuals, including the town’s Chief Imam, in what residents describe as a brazen and terrifying assault.
According to local sources, the heavily armed assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically and targeting homes before whisking away their captives.
“The gunmen came in large numbers around midnight. They moved from house to house, dragging people out. The Chief Imam was taken along with several others, and we don’t know where they were taken,” said a resident who narrowly escaped the attack.
