Kenyan long-distance runner Edwin Koech emerged victorious in the men’s category of the 2025 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, held on Saturday, February 15.
The 41-year-old crossed the finish line in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 18 seconds, securing his second title in three years.
Koech’s win earned him the marathon’s grand prize of $50,000, reaffirming his dominance in the annual event. The highly competitive race saw the participation of around 37,000 runners across the 10km and 42km race categories.
In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa clinched her first-ever Lagos City Marathon victory, finishing the race in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 4 seconds.
The 42km race, which began at the National Stadium in Surulere, concluded at Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, attracting elite athletes from around the world.
The marathon continues to grow as a premier sporting event in Africa, drawing international attention and participation.
