A fire broke out in the northern section of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) compound in Nairobi on Friday evening, but it was swiftly contained without affecting flight operations, Kenya Airways confirmed.
Emergency response teams responded promptly to the grassland fire, which was not located near the runway, the Kenya Red Cross reported on X (formerly Twitter).
“The fire is not close to the runway. There have been no flight disruptions. They have managed to contain part of it,” said Henry Okatch, a spokesperson for Kenya Airways.
An airport worker also confirmed that operations at Kenya’s busiest international airport remained unaffected.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to ensure full containment of the fire.
