President Mokgweetsi Masisi has pledged to mitigate further losses, as authorities scramble to respond to the disaster.

Schools and roads have been temporarily closed, and emergency workers are bracing for more rain in the coming days.

In the capital city of Gaborone, the local dam has overflowed, washing away cars and leaving properties waterlogged.

Disaster management officials believe that inadequate drainage in urban areas may have contributed to the severity of the flooding.

The Botswana government has acknowledged the need to re-examine its infrastructure planning to ensure that it can handle both droughts and floods.

As the country struggles to come to terms with the disaster, the international community will be watching to see how it responds to this devastating event.
