Sudan’s army announced on Sunday that it had regained control of el-Gitaina, a city previously held by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
According to a military statement, the army successfully dismantled RSF units in the area and secured the road leading to el-Obeid, a strategically significant route.
The battle for el-Gitaina is part of the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese military and RSF, a paramilitary group that has been engaged in a power struggle with the army since last year.
The fighting has resulted in widespread displacement and instability across Sudan, with both sides vying for territorial control.
The military’s recapture of el-Gitaina comes amid broader efforts to push back against RSF advances. However, the conflict remains fluid, with clashes reported in multiple regions.
The situation continues to evolve as both factions seek to consolidate their positions.
