A 24-year-old Thai woman, Pattaphi Wimonnat, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. She was caught attempting to smuggle 45.6kg of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis, into the country.
Wimonnat, who arrived on a Qatar Airways flight from Thailand via Doha, admitted to being recruited as a courier and was promised $3,000 upon successful delivery of the drugs in Nigeria.
In a separate operation, NDLEA officers intercepted an attempt to ship 68 parcels of Ghanaian Loud to London, hidden in crated cartons at the Lagos airport’s export shed. Three suspects, including a freight agent and two dispatch riders, were initially arrested, leading to the arrest of the alleged mastermind, Samuel Bitris.
The NDLEA also reported intercepting 49 cartons containing 49,000 pills of tramadol at the Port Harcourt Port Complex, and arresting suspects with large quantities of skunk in Nasarawa and Niger states.
