Egypt’s, Omar Assar edged out Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna in a thrilling 4-3 final at the 2025 Africa Cup in Tunisia, denying the Nigerian star a record-equalling sixth title.

In a highly anticipated showdown between the two fierce rivals, Assar emerged victorious, cementing his dominance over Aruna in their latest continental clash. Aruna had earlier cruised past Cameroonian, Ylane Batix in the semi-finals, while Assar secured his spot in the final with a hard-fought 4-3 win over surprise contender, Salifou Abdel Kader.

In the women’s singles final, rising Egyptian star Hana Goda dethroned reigning champion Dina Meshref with a stunning 4-2 comeback victory. Goda secured her place in the final after overpowering Nigeria’s Fatimo Bello 4-1, while Meshref had to dig deep to defeat Mariam Alhodaby 4-2.

With their performances, all four finalists—Assar, Aruna, Goda, and Meshref—alongside their semi-final opponents, have earned spots at the 2025 ITTF World Cup in China.
