Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has announced the recovery of nearly $500 million in proceeds of crime in 2024.
This marks a significant milestone for the agency, which also secured over 4,000 criminal convictions last year, its highest since inception.
The EFCC reported that some of the recovered funds were reinvested in government projects.
Additionally, the agency seized 931,052 metric tons of petroleum products, 975 real estate properties, and company shares.
Nigeria has long struggled with endemic corruption, ranking 140 out of 180 on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index.
The EFCC’s efforts aim to combat this corruption and promote transparency and accountability in the country.
